Cromwell Community College is a rural comprehensive school serving the town of Chatteris and the villages of Benwick, Manea, Doddington and Wimblington.
The catchment area is growing quickly; we now have over 1100 pupils and students on site. To accommodate this growth a new building was opened at Easter 2006. The College is also involved in Wave 4 of “Building Schools for the Future” and we expect to have up to £17.5 million spent on our facilities equipping us with the environment necessary to meet the educational and social challenges of the 21st Century.
We are a Humanities Specialist College; English is the lead subject. We chose this because we believe that better reading, writing and speaking will help everyone in all areas of life. “Specialist School status is making a significant contribution to improving progression and pupils’ performance by providing an effective curriculum, with relevant lesson content and enrichment.” – OFSTED November 2008.
On 1 September 2008 we became an 11-18 College, though in practice we have been delivering “A” Level studies on site since September 2005. We have worked and will continue to work in close collaboration with Neale-Wade Community College in March.
At Cromwell we firmly believe in education for the whole person and we are very proud of the way our pupils respond to others. “Their (pupils) supportive roles around school, arts performances for the community, charity work, provide examples of good collaboration, care and concern for others”. OFSTED November 2008
We are looking for fellow professionals who have pupils and pupil achievement at the heart of their philosophy. We have made progress in raising attainment and achievement, but we know there is more to do as we strive to remove the barriers to higher aspiration.
Our pupils deserve the very best so if you believe that you have the attributes of a true professional and relish the challenge of joining a school at a particularly exciting time, I look forward to hearing from you.
“The parents who expressed a view to inspectors were overwhelmingly supportive of the school”. OFSTED November 2008.
