School Direct - Teacher training at Cromwell
Cromwell Community College has decades of experience in teacher training. We have experience of working with a range of accredited providers.
Our current PGCE partnership provider of several years is the University of Bedfordshire. What makes an application to Cromwell Community College through the Fenland Teaching Schools Alliance (Lionel Walden) different to an application direct to a university PGCE course is that your training placement schools will be within our locality. However, if desired by the trainee and with prior agreement we are also able to arrange placements at other schools within the region.
We have a dedicated and well equipped training room specifically for our School Direct trainee teachers. This provides a quiet and secure base where trainees can work, meet to exchange ideas and experiences or simply make a coffee.
In addition to providing the highest standards and quality of training, Cromwell also provides all trainees with a laptop and a dedicated continuing professional development library. In addition to the Professional Studies course provided by the University, Cromwell delivers high quality in house training and development which has helped us to achieve 100% employment for Cromwell trainees.
You will be provided with support from highly experienced subject mentors and senior staff. It is very likely that trainees who do well on the course will be employed within one of our alliance schools.
Cromwell also participates in the School Experience Programme (SEP). This allows you visit the school, talk to teachers and observe lessons. This programme can be tailored to your needs and can be as short as one day, extending to several weeks. Many initial teacher training (ITT) providers require applicants to have some school experience before the course begins, furthermore undertaking experience of this type will provide you with an opportunity to talk at interview with confidence about the dynamic and fast-paced career which teaching can offer.
We are also happy to provide opportunities for potential applicants to visit the college and gain some experience outside of SEP.
