Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour. It is concerned with trying to understand and explain how people feel,
think and act. In order to do this it considers research conducted by Psychologists on people and animals. It will enable you to have
a better understanding of how people think and behave in the way they do.
You will follow the AQA Board syllabus which consists of:
- Cognitive Psychology – How does our mind process information? How do we learn and remember things?
- Social Psychology – How is the way we behave influenced by others? Why do some people behave in a prejudiced way towards others?
- Developmental Psychology – How do infants develop attachments? What are the stages in the development cognitive ability?
- Pro and Anti Social Behaviour – Why do people behave aggressively to others? Why do some people risk their lives to help others?
- Research Methods – How do psychologists conduct investigations?
How Will I Be Assessed?
There will be no coursework and the assessment is two 90 minute exams. You will be examined in your ability
to recall, apply and interpret the information studied.
How Will I Study?
You will learn through a range of learning experiences from individual research, class discussion, group
work, practical activities, use of ICT, presentations, videos and more formal written assignments.
Will There Be Any Homework?
There will be regular homework to complete as part of the course.
