The Award of Personal Effectiveness is a nationally recognised qualification, available at Levels 1 and 2 and taught to Pupils at Cromwell Community College in Years 10 and 11.

AoPE is taught in small groups and covers a diverse range of activities that aim to develop certain essential skill areas. AoPE covers, team working, independent thinking, numeracy, problem solving and ICT skills and the qualification helps to build the students confidence and positively encourage them to take more responsibility as they head towards adulthood.

AoPE can accredit many of the imaginative and diverse activities undertaken by students, both inside and outside of school and covers a broad range of curriculum areas. There are opportunities within the course to take part in out of school activities, school trips and educational visits to further broaden their knowledge and experience.

The AoPE assessment units encourage the development of the communication and personal, learning and thinking skills required for progression to further education, training or employment. Assessment is based on a portfolio of evidence that the students put together over the two years of the course, there is no final examination at the end of this course.
