A-Level Drama

This is an interesting course, that will really stretch you. You do not have to be a performer to do this course. To be successful you need to be a very good self manager. This course gives you practical experience in the Performing Arts industry, which is a big employer in the country. Whether you are developing a skill like voice control, rhythm and movement skills, how to market a performing arts event, stand up comedy or set design for instance, you will have to really discipline yourselves to practise, and record your improvement. The part of the year that most students enjoy the most is the planning of an event. In the past, students have organised an Oscar ceremony, have written and directed their own musical and have planned some publicity for another show. In the summer, you will either perform or take on one of the production roles (lighting, set, costume, hair, make-up, puppet making, sound, composition, publicity, stage management).

What will I Learn?

You will learn how to manage your time and be able to be an independent enquirer, both essential skills for employment and university. You will choose your own learning package, and depending on where that takes you, you could improve your creative research skills so that your stage designs are more professional, or possibly you could take up singing lessons to improve your vocal range. You will learn about the genre of musical theatre, and also how drama and theatre have developed. You will then demonstrate, in the end of year performance, that you can play with style and form.

What will I Learn?

What do I need to know or be able to do before taking this course?
