Post 16 Options In Modern Foreign Languages
French at Post 16
Examination Board: AQA AS and A2 French Specification 2650.
An AS or a full A level in modern languages is more than just about learning to speak a languages;
it is also an insight into the culture of the countries that speak the language, an examination into
many of the hot topics amongst young people today in the UK and abroad, and a rewarding and satisfying
life skill. Competence in a foreign language is increasingly sought after in a global economy in which
75% of people have no knowledge of English at all. An A level in French is also a great asset when applying
to university and languages graduates continue to enjoy favourable levels of employment.
A Level French supports breadth and depth of study by building on the strengths of GCSE study but with a
much more adult feel.
The structure of the course is clear with just two units at AS and two units at A2. At each level there
is a speaking examination and also a combined listening – reading – writing examination. Both classwork and
independent study form an integral part of the A level experience.
