Drama
Christian based drama group
This group is open to all pupils and meets once a week during the lunch break.
The aim of the group is to produce short pieces of theatre of a Christian nature
which are performed in assemblies once every half term. For example, during the
Autumn term we do an assembly on harvest and then on Christmas.
Act-up
This a drama group specifically for Key Stage 3 which meets once a week during
the lunch break. The aim of the group is to give pupils additional time in the
school week to do drama.
Cromwell Theatre Company
Once a year the company puts on a whole school production. In previous years we
have done 'Rock Around the Clock' and 'Our Day Out' by Willy Russell. The
company are usually given a six week rehearsal schedule with the performance
being held in the Spring Term. The auditions are open to all pupils in the
school and this is always a very popular extra-curricula activity.
Theatre Trips
We organise regular theatre trips for pupils studying this subject at GCSE level
as it is a crucial element of the course. We do also try to organise trips for
other year groups when appropriate pieces of theatre are available.
We frequently go the Cambridge
Arts Theatre and the Corn Exchange,
both in Cambridge and have also seen performances at
The Theatre Royal in Bury St.Edmunds.
Residential Trips
In October 2003 a group of 50 pupils from across the year groups were taken on a
trip to Lake Garda in
Italy for one week. This was a performing arts trip and gave pupils the
opportunity to widen the performance skills and experience of drama and theatre.
We also had the opportunity to visit Venice and Verona. This was an amazing
experience for the pupils and one we hope to repeat.
