GCSE

For years 10 and 11 we have two courses, GCSE Mathematics and GCSE Statistics.

Mathematics

We use the Edexel Modular Curriculum which involves coursework: the course assessment is:
March in Year 10 for STAGE 1; and again in November of Year 11.
November in Year 11 for STAGE 2; and again in March of Year 11.

The are 2 tests each lasting 25min, 1 non-calculator and the other is a calculator paper.
June in Year 11 for STAGE 3; test lasting 1hr 15min, 1 non-calculator and 1 calculator.
2 pieces of coursework; 1 Numerical Analysis, 1 Data Handling.

The final grade is taken from the best results for STAGE 1 & 2, the result of STAGE 3 and the coursework marks.

This course is split into three levels.

Foundation. using the Green Edexel GCSE MATHEMATICS FOUNDATION text from Heinemann, designed for pupils who find the subject difficult, this works through the curriculum carefully allowing time for those pupils to gain an understand of the material cover, leading to grades from, G,F,E,D

Intermediate. using the Blue Edexel GCSE MATHEMATICS INTERMEDIATE text from heinemann, this works at a moderate pace allowing for students to understand a satisfactory level of mathematics, aiming for grades between, E,D,C,B.

Higher. using the Red Edexel GCSE MATHEMATICS HIGHER text from Heinemann, this level work the subject, aiming for grades C,B,A,A*

Statistics

This course runs in parallel to the third science, giving the students the opportunity to gain an extra GCSE in statistics. This is a popular and it's coursework can also be used as the GCSE Mathematics data handling. Assessment is through a single Final exam(75% of the marks) plus a single piece of coursework (25% of the marks).
