Modern Foreign Languages
Welcome to the Modern Foreign Languages Department. We have four members of
staff within the department and we are situated in the new college wing. French
is taught to all students in Year 7 in mixed-ability groupings. German and
Spanish are then offered to the more able pupils in year 8 in a split-time
arrangement with French. Other students continue with French only, and this
arrangement is carried forward into Year 9.

Both French and German are offered at KS4 and students can opt for both
languages if they wish. At KS3 in French the department follows the "Metro"
course, in German the "Logo" course, and in Spanish the course is called
"Listos". There is also a wealth of other teaching material, which has been
built up over the years. At KS4 students are examined at GCSE through the AQA
Modular course in both languages, involving 30% course work plus external exams
at the end of both Years 10 and 11.

Since 1993 the Department has been involved with both the Cambridge University
and the De Montfort University PGCE courses and has helped train students in
both Languages. The French Exchange with Mehun sur Yevre has been running for
seventeen years.
