Nurturing Emotional Wellbeing
At Cromwell, we know that children learn best when they feel safe, happy, and understood. That’s why we use the Thrive Approach—a whole-school programme that supports the emotional and social development of children from Early Years through to Year 6.
What is Thrive?
Thrive is a research-based approach that helps us understand how children’s brains develop and how their emotional needs change as they grow. It gives us practical strategies to support children at the right time in their development, helping them build confidence, resilience, and strong relationships.
How does it work?
Children develop in stages, and sometimes they may need extra support to move through those stages successfully. Thrive helps us:
- Identify emotional needs through observations and assessments
- Create personalised action plans to support children’s wellbeing
- Use play, creativity, and positive relationships to help children feel safe and ready to learn
Whether a child is struggling with friendships, managing big feelings, or just needs a little extra reassurance, Thrive helps us respond in a way that’s right for their age and stage of development.
Why is this important in primary school?
The primary years are a crucial time for emotional development. From learning to share in Reception to managing peer pressure in Year 6, children face many challenges. Thrive helps us guide them through these moments with care and understanding, so they can grow into confident, emotionally secure learners.
Working with families
We believe that emotional wellbeing is a team effort. If your child is receiving Thrive support, we’ll keep you informed and involved. We may also offer ideas and activities you can use at home to support your child’s development.
