Thank you for all the wonderful half term habitat challenges. We have loved sharing them and they now make a display in the KS1 corridor.

We have moved onto Exploring the World through Monoprint in Art this half term.
During one lesson, we paused a video at different moments to draw what we could see – concentrating on a part, or the whole screen. We then found ‘tiny’ items and used sketching pencils to experiment with lines and shading.

Such a busy, and long, half term!
We utilised our PE lesson to practise some Weather Yoga from our Well-Being Wednesday: Sunshine Pose, Rain Pose, Rainbow Pose and Thunder Pose.

Continuing with our Well-Being Wednesday we experienced frustration! We set about trying to complete puzzles in pairs or small groups. We knew we would feel different things while completing them (especially when finding that my dog had eaten some pieces!). It was a perfect opportunity to use our calming strategies!

We shared all our Great Fire of London knowledge by writing a non-chronological report. We wrote up our facts, using our best handwriting, and created a class book to be kept in the reading garden.

Finally, our art unit of music and art came to an end with junk modelling musical instruments! It made for a very noisy end of term!

History – Friday saw Y2 immersed in history through a workshop led by Christopher (Make the Classroom Disappear).
We began by reconstructing London, role-playing the story of the fire and exploring ways we know that the Great Fire really happened.

Next came a carousel of activities:
Reading comprehension / retrieval quiz

Paired ‘Great Fire’ Game

Multi-sensory handling activity

Back in the classroom, to finish our Great Fire topic, we used a donation of wooden blocks (from U-Wood Bespoke Designs) to create a stunning fire background and silhouette of the London skyline.

Writing has seen us embracing our characters – Timothy Limpet and Tabitha Lumpit. One is nice and polite and tidy while the other is loud and loopy and messy! We imagined what it would be like with a classroom of Timothy’s and Tabitha’s… can you spot the differences?!
In Maths we have been looking at the numbers 0-100 (and beyond). In one of our lessons, we were estimating the length of lines and using a bead string to check. It’s also exciting when we write on the tables instead of our books!
Science took us outside looking for microhabitats within our school field.

In art we looked at the artist Tomoko Kawao and created our own pieces using her, and music, as our inspiration.

We have had a fantastic first full week in Y2.
In writing we had an unexpected delivery of deely-boppers from a friendly troll called Timothy Limpet! We have been working on our character descriptions of Trolls.

Maths has taken place inside and outside the classroom as we’ve explored multiples of ten from 0-100.

Friday afternoons have ended with music and art. We’ve experimented mark making while listening to different music.
