Great Fire of London Workshop

Year 2 had a fantastic day immersed in history during our Great Fire of London Workshop, led by Christopher from Make the Classroom Disappear. We began by rebuilding London and role-playing the events of 1666, helping us understand how the fire started and spread. We also explored the evidence historians use to know that the Great Fire really happened.

One of the highlights of the day was watching the fire spread through our model London and working together to help stop it. We then enjoyed a carousel of activities, including a reading comprehension and retrieval quiz, a paired Great Fire game and a multi-sensory handling activity, before bringing all our learning back together in class.

To continue the learning at home, ask your child to explain why the fire spread so quickly and why the people of London couldn’t just call the fire brigade (HINT: there are two reasons!).

It has been a fantastic start to Year 2 and we are so proud of how quickly everyone has settled back into school and class routines after the summer holidays.

This week, we received a very unexpected delivery of deely-boppers from a friendly troll called Timothy Limpet! In English, we have been describing trolls and their homes using expanded noun phrases, with some wonderfully imaginative vocabulary already.

In Maths, we have been exploring multiples of ten from 0-100 (and beyond), making the most of the sunshine by taking our learning outside. 

We are looking forward to a brilliant year ahead!
