Year 4

Year 4 Blog up to week 4, Autumn Term

The children have all settled back into school really well.  Children are working hard and making great progress with their learning.

English

This half term, we will be writing stories with a moral, similar to ones in Aesop’s Fables.  We are reading example stories from that book and also from A World Full of Animal Stories by Angela McAllister.

This week, the children have been developing their ideas for writing using a 5-part planning model.  They have enjoyed discussing their ideas with their partners.

Maths

The children have learnt methods for learning multiples of 3, 6 and now 9.  We have used a range of equipment, including multilink cubes and matchsticks!

PE

In PE, the children have taken part in fitness/team activities, working alongside Year 3 children.  They have also enjoyed the start of our new unit - based on people during World War 2.  Yesterday, the children created dance moves for these roles, either working independently, in a partnership or within a small group.

Science

The children carried out an experiment today to demonstrate the steps of human digestion.  This was a very messy job!

Skills Builder Day

Our class had great fun working within teams to solve a ‘Whodunnit’ mystery about who stole the chocolate.  They enjoyed looking at the different pieces of evidence and discussing likely suspects!

Art

In Art, the children have started to create their own Christmas card design using water colours.  They have also been learning about pattern and design and later, they will be creating blocks to print their designs with.

History

In History, we have been learning about the Roman Republic.  The children have learnt the story about Romulus and Remus and how Rome began.  More recently, we have learnt about a famous Roman leader called Hannibal.  We reenacted Hannibal’s journey across the Alps (with elephants!) in our playground.
